Amazon Seeking 2nd Headquarters: Canadian Cities Pitch Interest
 
So far Toronto and Vancouver have pitched their interest to make their city a permanent home for Amazon.


CBC Article:

Wouldn't it be more advantageous for a second head office to be on the other side of the continent?

I think it won't go on the west coast but if they want to have a close connection to their seattle headquarters Vancouver would be the best.

Amazon is already HQ'ed in Seattle. Vancouver has no chance. It will be located east if the Mississippi.

Same time zone as Washington and California, plus the same type of culture

We FM the Amazon offices in Seattle. Vancouver seems about the right fit culture-wise

I doubt any Canadian city will be able to match the incentives and tax breaks that U.S centres will proffer. Although I suppose there would be a significant advantage to Canada in terms of salary costs.

Van has the best climate that Canada can offer. Americans coming to Canada would prefer Van's climate and outdoor activities over those in Eastern Canada.

It makes sense to continue and expand upon their presence in Vancouver but, as a second head office? There's little buffer. A disaster could easily take out both sites.

Yes something like an earthquake could do that but Amazon staff are very mobile and everything they do is virtual, so the physical offices are probably not that critical

Our Head office in Houston was knocked out for a week due to the hurricane, but asside for people not being able to get to the office it was pretty much business as usual for the company

Vancouver has no advantages over Seattle anyway. This HQ2 will be in the East for sure.

Calgary has a shit ton of vacant office space and a very highly educated workforce, would be a good place for Amazon.
