This is a beautiful proposal, and if it isn't built here, build it somewhere in the city!

The Forte has $2 million 2 bedroom condos. No "working class renters" in sight. No renters at all. Brooklyner is a rental but more expensive than most newer construction Manhattan rentals.

Downtown Brooklyn is very expensive and extremely desirable, because you can't build towers like this anywhere else in Brooklyn.

I seriously love this tower.
It reminds me of the striking design of 70 Pine Street in Downtown Manhattan.

Why some people compare this to 432 Park is beyond me.

This tower just fits so well into Brooklyn that is begs developers to consider Brooklyn.

As far as Brooklyner, the current rents there are $2500 a month for 400sq ft studio, $4,000 for 700sq ft 1 bedroom. While the building looks like garbage from the outside, its hardly working class.
Prices very much comparable to Manhattan.

The striking difference between this tower and a tower like 111 W 57th for example, is the number of units that will be available. That changes a lot of things, but expect more development in Downtown Brooklyn, not less. Especially with the announcement of 420 Albee Square.

Really hope this gets built. I'm a little skeptical given the height, location, and ambitious design. On the other hand, Brooklyn is coming into its own so maybe JDS is getting ahead of the game..

ABout cycles (and bubbles etc.), as long as the economy continues its baby steps and as long as domestic demand and foreign investment keep this trend rolling, I see not much to be worried about.
I mean, they don't necessarily *have* to build this *now*. I think the idea all along has been to try fitting in as much upward construction as possible before we see some *really serious* warning signs. When that happens, some major projects, especially those halfway complete, will have to be stalled

PS: A crown such as this beauty has would have fit CPT/Nordstrom so well......Matter of fact, I wonder if these two can change addresses yet...

Even if we don't get this exact design, I hope it's very close to final. Brooklyn needs this crown and this distinctive tower.

Given what we've seen with the previous collaborations between JDS and SHOP, the design won't change much if at all. It'll most likely be just height increases at most.

Let's hope so. I need to see more renderings before I'm convinced this will be the final design. I have no doubt in SHoP's ability to create a stunning tower here, and at the other potential supertall sites in the works.

But whatever the case, JDS is clearly moving closer to work on site than not...

Hopefully a tower such as this will encourage more developers to see Brooklyn as a feasible market for supertalls. I'd like to see Flatbush Avenue lined with them. Imagine the drive down it, and over the Brooklyn Bridge where you are greeted by many more super talls with even more super talls in the distance in Midtown and if you jerk your head to the right, due to a twitch of excitement, you can see them in LIC hopefully... Would make for a nice driving timelapse. In otherwords, there is no escape from the super talls. With a possibility of one in LIC, and with the towers in JC rising, there is no escape from the skyscrapers.

No it won't. Zoning doesn't even allow tall buildings in many parts of the city.
