LONGTIME (and formerly late-night) Midtown Vietnamese mainstay Van Loc has announced it will be shutting down soon after 28 years in business. The restaurant’s owners have posted a note (shown at right) letting customers know of its plans, but have not announced a closing date. The freestanding restaurant building and its parking lot sit on the southern portion of the Midtown block at 3010 Milam St., between Rosalie St. and Anita, a block north of Elgin St.

Midtown poised for first new office tower in decades

Midtown, the thriving urban neighborhood just south of downtown, could see a sleek new office tower rise from a parcel of land that for years housed a Vietnamese restaurant and is now near the center of a growing real estate boom.

Houston-based Senterra Real Estate Group is planning a 16-story office tower at 3003 Louisiana. The company says it would be the first new office tower to be built in Midtown in nearly five decades.

Construction, however, won't start on the building until about half of it is spoken for by future tenants.

The Gensler architecture firm has designed a building for Senterra's site with 250,000 square feet of office space in nine floors above seven levels of parking. The structure will allow for six corner offices. Terraces will face Anita, Louisiana and Milam on the building's eighth and 16th floors.

The building could be completed by the end of 2017.
