Thank you for posting these great photos. My wife and I went to Venice during our honeymoon to Italy and it is an absolutely beautiful city.

Are people really living there? What kind of lives do they have? Do they have jobs, incomes,

Yes people live there but not that many (60.000 or so) I don't know what jobs they do, but the city is well connected by train to the rest of the country so it's no different from any other city.

Beautiful pictures! I have heard that winter is the best time to visit Venice, to avoid the large crowds, and be able to see the real Venice.

Yeah there were hardly any people lining up to the various museums.

It used to be a largest and most advanced trade center in Europe.
Now it's a largest and most prosperous tourist hub in the world. Dwellers have been driven away for tourists.
See things like Milan, Turin or Naples to meet actual Italian folks.

I love Venice. I also went in the winter, but the sun was a rarity. Beautiful!

^ I would sincerely suggest you a trip to Naples when you have some time and some money.

Of course, you take a look at the Pompeii ruins, cause it's the most impressive ancient Roman ruins you'll ever see. There's even an ancient corpse preserved by burning ash over there. It is curled up like a human fetus trying to protect themselves... It is something touching, believe it.

But the real thing is the Naples urban fabric. Was southern Italy better off, it would claim being Italy's jewel throne. And there is serious rivalry over there. It's like fucking France, Spain and Portugal, no joke when it comes to historic urban fabrics. It's a bad ass thing.

Actually, it's been everyone's reference so far.

When people show these photo's of some of these older cities in Europe, it's my realization that outside these cities is a modern area, and I know Venice has a modern area, as I've been there a couple times, and it would be nice to show the modern area as well, for contrast.
