What do you think of this building?
Chicago General Developments
Imperial Court Hotel Plaza - 150 rooms + 20000 s.f. retail http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/482...alctdayag8.jpg http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/1...ctnightho8.jpg I kind of like it. You could call it tacky, but it's pretty well-proportioned and detailed and it would definitely be a landmark. |
Well, it will be built in China town so I think it would fit nicely.
Otherwise it would be weird. |
I like it. It is very unique to most areas in America. Being somewhat a high-rise makes it even more intresting.
|
Not a bigfan, the pagoda style should be limited to pagodas, specifically lowrises. It reminds me of early American skyscrapers when there was no clear design direction.
|
I'm imagining broad wings like that of a phoenix spreading themselves from the sides with a tail of a massive whale poking out of the rear.
What do you think? |
I think that how this turns out really depends on what materials they use and how closely the facade work matches that of the diagram. It could be a somewhat tasteful building with an interesting, high-rise pagoda design, but it could also end up as a gaudy, cheaply built monstrosity.

Good point, but it is not out of scale where this one is going up. |
I think that if a building is gonna be tacky, why not be insane tacky? This thing is gonna look SO bad, it will awesome. And why shouldn't China Town look like Disney Land? Why I first saw I laughed and was like 'YES'! So yeah... It's fine, whatever.
But where is this going? Can you show me on a map? |
It's really cool.....I love it! I wish we had it in our chinatown.
|
It's rare for this part of the world, but it's essentially PoMo. If you like PoMo, you'll like this. If you don't, you won't.
|
it's very cartoony..this is going in chinatown? from the first rendering I woudl'nt think so...those people are so not chinese

would fit nicely in Dubai or in a Chinese city but in Chicago : no thanks
|
Vegas could probably pull it off obviously as a themed casino, a few other cities with bustling China towns.. ie.. Sisco/Couver it could be interesting... however, not for it personally.. not there anyway..
But tip the hat for thinking out side the box... just a little too far out imo.. |
Depends on quality of materials
|
It's a very silly design but...why not, it is Chinatown after all.
|
I'd like it even more if they built the buildings behind it as shown in the first rendering. . . but otherwise it will be a gaudy landmark to Chicago's Chinatown. . . but the shoe surely fits in this case. . .
|
Looks really good. It will be a great addition to Chinatown.
|
It looks better than most of the other buildings that try to look like that.
|
Is it just me or is the perspective off in the first rendering?
