hmm... then why is Trump Toronto listed as #1 tallest u/c? it's no farther ahead in terms of construction.

They (Trump) have put piles in the ground, and they have begun excavation.

That (Georgia) site looks like pure demolition.

That's just my observation, but it's probably the reason it hasn't been listed U/C by skyscraperpage.

For downtown TO? You can't even get a new condo in Burnaby for that price. You guys are lucky.

caltrane74 Feb 6, 2008 2:36 PM

It's a supply thing, you Vancouver guys wouldn't understand.

they aren't demolishing the existing building - just tearing down the ballroom. if you look to the right of the picture posted, excavation has begun and is further ahead than Trump.

200K for a downtown condo sounds great. at least the average Joe isn't being squeezed out to the burbs because prices are so high like here in Vancouver. Makes for a more balanced downtown.

I'm taking your word for it and have updated the list.

1 - Get Rid of airport downtown
2 - Build up!!
3 - Problem solved.

WhipperSnapper Feb 6, 2008 4:05 PM

That $200,000 buys you 500 square feet facing an elevator which I guess is still pretty good

No quite

The airport lands aren't downtown and there really isn't a need to build 400 - 500+ footers (the cause of the nearby airport ) anywhere in Canada in order to build up density

1. smaller units
2. experienced apartment/highrise developers
3. contractors that have more than bathroom/kitchen renovations on their resume/ well connected suppliers

Delirium Feb 6, 2008 4:17 PM

i checked on mls.ca and there's nothing new downtown here for 200K. the cheapest condo on the market right now is a 585 sq/ft, 3rd floor unit in the west end for $229,000 and the building is 40 years old.

that's pretty bad.

and thanks for updating the list Caltrane74!

Hotel Georgia and Epcor (with an unconfirmed height of 139m) have been moved over to construction as I do remember seeing a picture of construction activity for the latter.

developers have decided instead to build en masse. For one, high condo prices, would just push people to the suburbs so the developers have to keep decent prices.

Nonetheless, 23,000 condos were sold in the GTA last year.

caltrane74 Feb 6, 2008 5:56 PM

I've updated the Epcor building in Edmonton and Hotel Georgia in Vancouver.

Edmonton guys, post your pictures!!!!!

doesnt matter how many are sold...it is to whom they are sold to that counts...

That Niagara Falls picture is clearly quite a few years old and that is obviously the Embassy Suites (completed 2003) under construction. Last I saw, the Hilton addition was at about 3 floors above ground. Here is a rendering of the finished tower as well as some (fairly) recent construction photos from October/November.

Thanks,

I haven't been to Niagara Falls in months.. and have no clue where this one is at.

And for some reason we have lost our previously huge Niagara Falls continegent on this forum.
