Calgary - Downtown - Highrises 1
 

Calgary is the 3rd largest city in Canada by population (1,240,000) and is the largest city of the Calgary Census Metropolitan Area in Alberta (containing 1,393,000, the 4th largest in Canada).

Downtown is located on a gentle bend of the Bow River which forms its Northern boundary. I will define Downtown as including the adjacent districts of Downtown Commercial Core, Downtown West End, Eau Claire, Downtown East Village, and Chinatown, as well as Beltline to the South of those districts.

This thread will focus on closer views of the variety of highrises, starting with several from the late 1960's since the city's vertical development really started at that time.

Odd, flipping through it felt very San Diego.

The only thing I can think of is to check out the new library downtown if it’s open yet!

Nice. The architecture of many of these skyscrapers look more like a city in the South then in the North. Continental indeed.

What do you mean?,
The architecture is pretty much what every major Canadian city is building currently and it doesn't get more North than us

I think it looks continental with the use of light exteriors, much glass and balconies on the newer buildings. Much used in Toronto too, but also in Miami and Spain.

the big bldgs are a cross between the 1970s and new china.

i am dyin to get out to calgary and edmonton sometime, i even have it planned out, i just have to pull the trigger lol.

Yes there are many sets of twins in this city, although many of them are "fraternal" meaning they differ in height or orientation or detail.
