Is this a joke? This does not belong here.

It looks beautiful. My wife and I are planning on visiting next summer.

LAsam Nov 2, 2018 8:19 PM

Well... you don't see that everyday on SSP!

Let me know the date, I will give you the tour, if you want. This is my neighbhourhood, I know it very well, so I can make sure you won't miss any of the attractions.

I work in a place like this, in the office part of an industrial complex.

I’m surprised nobody caught you and told you to beat it.

Jaborandi Nov 3, 2018 2:17 AM

Very inspiring!

I worked in an estate like this for a few months once. It was depressing as hell (shit job too) - but you've still managed to find that little bit of romance & dreary beauty these places have.

xzmattzx Nov 6, 2018 8:38 PM

Interesting pictures. It's good to see someone pay attention to a place that everyone writes off as soulless. These are our factories and warehouses of today; they look boring, but they are important, since a lot of things that we buy are made or shipped from places that look like this.

Doady Nov 6, 2018 11:08 PM

Thanks everyone. I realized recently I should photograph more of the dreary and mundane things. It is what I know, and it seems to provoke more reaction too.

There weren't a lot of people around on Thanksgiving and weekends so it wasn't too hard to avoid them. My camera is point-and-shoot so maybe it doesn't attract as much attention as a huge SLR. Mostly I only worried about the security cameras, some you can see in the photos.

What kind of point-and-click camera do you have? Do you process them after downloading? Your pictures are crisp, and I wouldn't have expected that.

I use an Olympus C-7070WZ. It is a 7 megapixel model from 2005 so maybe a new smartphone has similar or better image quality. If I were get a new camera I would get a Micro Four Thirds like Olympus Pen F or Panasonic GX9 since they are almost as compact as what I have now.

I shoot in RAW format and process the photos in Capture One Pro 9. Typically I adjust colour, curves, highlights, clarity, sharpening, chromatic abberation, barrel distortion, nothing too drastic. Shooting RAW and having a good RAW converter is very important.

As ugly as these types of places may be it is a necessary "evil" per se. I work in an area that looks a lot like this and it pays the bills so I can't complain. :P

Thanks for sharing something I didn't think i'd ever see here! ;)

I also enjoyed reading people's comments! :D

Thank you for finding the beauty in this vernacular Americana!

202_Cyclist Feb 6, 2021 3:00 AM

Have you heard of Dream Industrial REIT, which owns these distribution centers and office parks in Toronto and Montreal? I bought stock in the company today.

🚀 eh!

llamaorama Feb 6, 2021 3:48 AM

Oh I posted in this thread two years ago... way to raise the dead.

Incidentally my company has a few Canadian facilities in the area you photographed: north York, gale grove, Brampton. Looks oddly familiar lol.

I bought another stock based on reading something in this thread last month and it doubled in value.
