I am very excited about Harrison's wastelands being redeveloped. Too bad the architecture is uninspiring.

This development is going to do wonders for newark.

It is nice to see New Jersey embracing its waterfronts as places OTHER than heavy industry.

That's true. Both the Newark and Harrison sides will have new promenades, though is some places they're open already.

Bill would ban teams playing in N.J. from using "New York''

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Normally it is Jersey fans who gripe that they don't get any respect from pro sports teams that play at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford but have "New York" in their names.

But three New York assemblymen recently sponsored a bill to stop football's Giants and Jets and soccer's Red Bulls from using the Empire State's name or abbreviation because they don't play their home games in New York.

"At the very least, the location of the place where a team plays should be accurate, and reflect where they actually play their home games," Assemblyman Ivan Lafayette, of Queens, writes in the bill, as reported by The Record of Bergen County in Saturday newspapers.

The legislation wasn't started here, but it seems to have some supporters in the Garden State.

"That bill does sound like a Jersey thing, which is ironic considering that over here we basically seem to have given up on this," George Zoffinger, head of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority told the newspaper. "But I think with all the money we give these teams, they should be called 'New Jersey."'

So far the bill _ co-sponsored by Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz of the Bronx and Felix Ortiz of Brooklyn _ only applies to sports teams.

Officials from the three teams have adamantly said that they aren't going to change their names.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing this Bill pass, even I highly doubt it will. I've always had gripes with NY teams not changing their names, especially when the metrostars changed their names to NY!

I can see people getting all in a huff. NY giants, NY jets and so. But do we really need a bill? Does this really require the involvement of government. is it that serious?

Any sign they're moving ahead with any of the residential and commercial development that's supposed to surround the stadium? Doesn't look like it from the photos, although they don't show the whole site. It's going to be a long, desolate walk from the PATH train to that stadium if nothing else gets built.

The stadium is near the PATH station. I was told by someone in the area that there was a delay with the residential developments (not surprising) but it had more to do with local coruption than the economy.

Is the PATH station going to be refurbed?

It's planned to. The greater news is that the entire fleet of PATH cars will be replaced, starting this year.

I am really excited for Red Bull Arena to be finished this year. Finally North Jersey will have a premier place to go and watch a Soccer match. It's easily going to be the class of the MLS and probably will attract the US national team to schedule a couple of more games per year in the NJ area.

And btw, NYguy. The PATH train authority has already started to change out the older Path cars. I go to Newark atleast once a week and have ridden them a couple of times. As of right now generally the newer ones are riding from Newark straight to the WTC Path Hub. They are not running thru hoboken yet.

That's great. Though I hardly take the PATH, those older cars were past due for an upgrade.
