If build, it will rank 5th in Austins tallest. Beating the "Spring" at 434 ft.

KevinFromTexas Feb 12, 2014 1:27 AM

Yeah, today it would be our 5th tallest. But with everything we know of that is proposed it could eventually be our 9th tallest. Which is nuts, because before 2000 we had no buildings over 400 feet. Now we have 7 completed, one more topped out and another one under construction, plus 9 more that are proposed.

MightyYoda Feb 12, 2014 7:03 PM

Google needs to update, that image is missing a lot of buildings.

shakman Feb 14, 2014 4:34 AM

Excellent!!! Keep building towers in this area so it may fill in.

KevinFromTexas Feb 22, 2014 1:19 AM

Austin developer plans 37-story condo tower downtown

By Shonda Novak
American-Statesman Staff

More high-rise housing is envisioned for downtown Austin, with a local developer planning a 37-story tower at West Fifth Street and West Avenue that would bring 163 upscale condominiums to market.

Riverside Resources is proposing to build the skyscraper at 718 West Fifth, a site that is slightly less than one-quarter of a city block at the northeast corner of Fifth and West, Nikelle Meade, an attorney for the developer, told the American-Statesman. Riverside Resources has a contract to buy the site from the Texas Press Association, which has its offices there, Meade said.

The developer will ask the city of Austin for approval to build a project with 306,555 square feet – about 60,000 more than current rules would allow.

Austin developer's 37-story residential tower hinges on City Hall

A proposal to build a 37-story condominium tower in downtown Austin broke online about a week ago, but whether it becomes a reality will hinge on how the developers are able to work the project through city hall.

Austin developer Riverside Resources has plans to buy the site at the corner of West Fifth Street and West Avenue and build a 37-story, 306,555-square-foot, 163-unit highrise with 2,500 square feet of retail space. The site is now the home of the Texas Press Association.

KevinFromTexas Oct 15, 2014 12:10 AM

This says the building will be 448 feet tall with 39 floors. The city hasn't approved their site plan yet, so construction likely won't happen until that does. Plus, we should be able to see all the official heights with that.

New condo project set to start in downtown Austin

By Shonda Novak
American-Statesman Staff

Downtown Austin is about to see its fifth-tallest building break ground.

The 39-story tower is planned for the northeast corner of Fifth and West streets, where the building that housed the Texas Press Association sits. Demolition on that building will start later this month to make way for the new tower, which will bring 154 new luxury condos to market when it opens in the fall of 2017. Units will start in the $500,000s, said Scott Dunaway, a spokesman for the developer, Riverside Resources.

435 feet 6 inches to main roof.

422 feet to the highest occupied floor (39th floor).

61 feet 9 inches to the 6th floor podium.

Those numbers are the ones measured from the southwest corner of the building at West Avenue and West 5th Street.

The wrecking crews descended this week on the former headquarters of the Texas Press Association at 718 W. Fifth St.

Austin-based Riverside Resources purchased the site and is building Fifth & West, a 39-story condo tower that will be one of the tallest buildings in the city when it's finished in fall 2017. Click on the photo to see a slideshow of the site and renderings of the new tower.

Demolition is expected to take 15 working days, according to project spokesman Scott Dunaway.

39-Story Condo Tower Coming to Fifth Street
By: Jess Mitchell Updated 12/22/2014 10:06 AM

A 39-story condo tower will go up at West Fifth Street and West Avenue where the Texas Press Association once stood. The building is called 5th and West, and will have 154 residences with prices starting at $500,000.

I like this one. It reminds me of a smaller, glassier, residential version of Houston's Fulbright Tower.

Still digging. The site is small so they're having some logistical issues since they have to load the trucks at street level one by one.
