That looks more like London (UK) in London (Ontario). It's a very British looking apartment block: brick, bland, poor quality, shabby, with cheap pokey little windows.

Quibble: in Chelsea or Kensington (actually, anywhere in London or indeed the UK) the grounds of a castle-like house like that would be walled off from the street.

manny_santos Nov 11, 2019 4:32 AM

New Westminster has a lot of houses that look out of place for Metro Vancouver but remind me a lot of almost any Southern Ontario city.

Paging SignalHillHiker to post his pictures of O'Brien's Hill in St. John's. Could be Seattle/Vancouver in St. John's. I'm sure he has more too.

A challenge - take a virtual stroll down Bethnal Green Rd heading toward Shoreditch in London and tell me if the streetscape reminds you of any Canadian city. I walked it from the Bethnal Green Tube station a few weeks ago and found some of it had a very familiar feel.

It shouldn't. Westmount even has Ontario-style streetlights with the yellow vertical casing.

That Yakutsk one could be a doppelganger for some of the finer parts of Norilsk.

James Street in Wallaceburg reminds me of James Street in Hamilton.

Poor old Wallaceburg. It's probably the only non-resource town in the country that has been in constant depopulation for 40 solid years.

It's a type of streetscape that is quite commonly found in much of Canada, especially Toronto. Much of Bank St. in Centretown Ottawa is quite similar to this. There are also pockets of this "look" in Ontario cities like Kingston, Hamilton and also in Vancouver and Halifax even. Maybe even Montreal.

There's a(n) (in)famous Putingrad-in-Markham pic that floats around. With a church at the end of the street. I remember photoshopping the stop sign on it :)

Cabot Tower on the centre horizon. :D Love that it's omnipresent. You can even see it from Mount Pearl.

Quinpool Road in Halifax reminds me of a neighbourhood commercial strip in Ontario, like some of the "avenues" in the outer parts of inner-city Toronto. It has a lot of old houses that have been converted to commercial units, which is something you see in parts of Toronto too.

(from Google streetview)

I thought this scene was interesting even though it doesn't resemble anything as a whole. On the left is a circa 1920 English garden suburb development, similar to Hampstead Garden Suburb in the London area. British planners contributed to the design of this area that was redeveloped after the Halifax Explosion in 1917.

Agreed with the last two - could very easily pass respectively for BC and Ontario.

BTW, this "Castle" at the forks of the Thames was just sold by the County of Middlesex to a private developer along with another building, who plans on building a very large development on the site. Fingers crossed they don't touch the castle.

Bloor West in particular really reminds me of Quinpool, especially around High Park.

Quinpool Road looks more like Pape Village.
