nice job. spectacular city. i've only seen it in person during a hot fussy rain.
i hate the pall of tourism over it, at the same time, and there's something about it that i don't always feel comfortable in that part of the south unlike Louisiana (maybe it's because General Grant is treated like a hero here with strip malls named after him and his house is an amusement park and General Sherman lived and is buried in St. Louis? eh?). |

Beautiful! I love the effect of the moss (?) hanging down from the trees, and the juxtaposition between that swampy atmosphere and the beautiful city. Must be creepy on a foggy day.

another very interesting savannah observation i had was its not just tourist oriented. along with the tourist industry obviously from the pics you can see the large seaport operations nearby and that must be a major employer. not so obviously, unless you walk around town quite a bit, is the influence of scad, the art school. it has a huge presence, they own a lot of buildings. so savannah has quite an organic arty vibe as well. i think you can see that in the night photo of the auto dealer, scad art students got ahold of that business, which is awesome.

My fiance graduated from SCAD Savannah last fall, so I know this city very well -- trust me, even the best photos can't do it justice. If you ever have the opportunity, GO THERE. |

I thank God the Union Army did not raise Savannah during the "March to the Sea". It would have been horrible to see such great archtecture and charm be lost. It is to my understanding the Mayor of Savannah at that time met General Sherman, prior to his arrival into Savannah, and presented the "Key" to City in exchange that Savannah would not suffer the same fate as Atlanta and everything in between. General Sherman then presented Savannah as a Christmas gift to Abraham Lincoln. (Please feel free to correct me if my history is incorrect.)

Unreal. I was just in Charleston, SC a few weeks back and its amazing how similar these two are. Both are incredibly gorgeous and charming towns :tup:

In one of the first few photos, is that an office tower u/c? Somehow didn't expect that in such a tourism-based city.
