Proposed in the mid-1990s to complement the Denver Pavillions retail and entertainment center in downtown Denver, Trango Tower was slated to become the tallest skyscraper in North America outside of New York City and Chicago. The Trango Tower, named after a sheer vertical rock formation in the upper reaches of Pakistan, would have become a new symbol for Denver. Rising at a height of possibly over 1,050 feet, Trango Tower would have made Denver the "third tallest city" in North America, allowing the Mile High City to surpass Houston's Chase Tower, Los Angeles' Library Tower and Atlanta's Bank of America Center to achieve for Denver a height only outdone by New York and Chicago.

Ironically, this is the same plot that was to house another Denver's 'New Tallest' back in the 1980's with the Reliance Center, and by the same developer. It seems that a taller skyscraper in the Mile High City, on this plot at least, will never come to pass...

Ahh, the Gumby Tower! Very glad that we didn't get this monstrosity. What's up with the strange colors anyway? It's like they were trying to make it look funny.

No....it just looks like it belongs in Vegas with the Mirage or the Luxor. :haha:

I love that comment. The first time I looked at it many years ago, I thought the same thing. I hate to admit it, but I secretly had hoped this tower wouldnt get built when it was first announced. :D

Count me in the camp that wishes that it had been built. Keating is a masterful architect and I think he would have done something wonderful with this tower.

A rendering is a rendering is a rendering...the end product likely would have been incredible.

I like the building, but that skyline view clearly shows the building at around 890-900 feet, not 1,050, based on the 705' height of Wells Fargo.

I am the one who made all of the "skyline" renderings, some 9 years ago. Trango Tower would have been anywhere between 1,016' and 1,050', based on engineering drawings I obtained. The tower may appear shorter in the rendering facing west because it is further back in the skyline than the "Big 3". And FYI, Wells Fargo is 698', not 705'...

I too like this building and wish it had gotten built. . . it was probably the only super-tall proposed back in that era. . .

I wasn't against the radical design ....but the color was bad. Imagine the building in silver cladding.

It is ok, a spire would look a lot better on the end of it. However, the rendering shows that the building has some unique shape to it.
