NEW YORK | 383 Madison Avenue | 755 FT / 230 M | 47 FLOORS | 2001
one of my favourite buildings in NY! from wikipedia:
383 Madison Avenue is an office building in New York City located on Madison Avenue between 46th and 47th Streets and owned by JP Morgan Chase. Designed by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, it is 755 ft (230 m) tall with 47 floors. It was completed in 2001 and opened in 2002, at which time it was, by some reports, the 88th tallest building in the world. The building is approximately 110 000 rentable square meters (1,200,000 sq ft). Formerly known as the Bear Stearns Building, it housed the world headquarters of the now defunct investment bank from the buildings completion until Bear's collapse and sale to JPMorgan Chase in 2008. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...R_Flickr_3.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...R_Flickr_1.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...earStearns.JPG D-Mac, SSC: http://img51.photobucket.com/albums/...ar_Stearns.jpg krull, SSC: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/113/2...faea8c96_b.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/40/10...73b2d5bd_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1402/...43f3ea9e_b.jpg antongorbov http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/...1da61dc0_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4112/...993b78b8_o.jpg |

Very, very beautiful.
|
I've never even noticed that building before but its pretty sweet. Its almost like some sort of faux art deco.

BAH!
It could have been so much better. This grudgingly gets a nod of approval from the curmudgeon. It is indeed a sort of "Faux Art-Deco" And I wish, oh How I wish even a fraction of modern Big Boring Boxes attemted to pull off such a look! It is far and away one of my least hated moderen buildings, which is high praise! The base and the step back looked to it does indeed warm my curmudgeon heart. But, the top... Oh if only, if ONLY they had added some sort of Spiral! It would have felt like a true modern Art Deco building! Alas, so close and yet so far. |

If I can do a 3 way switch this building with AXA Center & 60 Wall St. NYC wood look perfect but alas. It is what it is. If only this building was 100 feet taller it wood stand out better.

Yes its a gorgeous building but if only it were taller.... also its a shame that Chase is going to abandon it for a less-than stellar office building at HY.
