Yeah this one. I took that photo of the rendering a while back. :) Now is all grown up. I actually live in the neighborhood. I will try to take new photos soon.

Ha, me too... just a few blocks down! I've been seeing this one rise & couldn't find anything about it, so this thread is nice. This thing looks tall, too--50ish stories, maybe 600-700 feet? Will be a nice contrast to the condo tower next door (which doesn't look like condos at all, bleh... hopefully that one gets reclad soon).

btw, just googled it and found this: http://uwsdevelopments.wordpress.com...can-red-cross/

says it'll be 45 stories, 80/20 rental, but emporis gives 42 floors and 470'... hmmm, whatever, at least something tall is being built. :)

NYCDOB file says 42fl and 470 ft. Respectable height given the area.

Yawn.

I expect more out of Netherlands architecturally speaking.

scalziand Dec 5, 2008 5:34 PM

Pretty nice. :)

The previous (and unbelievably beautiful) proposal for this site was going to be a 70+ story tower designed by Christian de Portzamparc with space at the base for the New York City Opera:

what's the location of the tower?

photoLith Dec 5, 2008 11:41 PM

Right by the Lincoln Centre of the Performing Arts near the southwestern end of Central Park. Correct my if Im wrong.

anyone have any recent pics?

RoldanTTLB Mar 17, 2009 12:57 AM

I'll take a photo this weekend if I get down there. I was by it on Sunday, and it doesn't look better with more glass on it. It's also very close to if not topped out. It's not a bad building, per se, just boring, and while I rarely buy the "out of place for the neighborhood" argument, I think it fits pretty well here.

So that's what they're building. I live nearby but don't venture west of Broadway in the 60s unless I'm going to a bike shop over that way.
