Looks good, now we just need some pictures of the progress

There are a few construction pictures floating around the St. John's general thread, I'll check for them after. Progress has been going slowly on the site for months now, though I suspect this is due to the complexity of the grade and requirements for the parking garage.

I was wondering if the sea water heating and cooling system was to blame for the length it's taking to see real progress? I assume that's something they'd need to get done early.

I was thinking that as well. Such things require intense drilling on site, which we know is a difficult task here in Newfoundland. However, once all that is done and they start adding floors, I imagine things will go much quicker (like the MUN residence houses).

They had those huge pipes too coming from the ground, I don't know what they were for exactly but there's nothing like them at the Fortis site.

I'm not sure what those were, but my girlfriend was going on about how those pipes needed anti-corrosion coverings, as her masters in chemistry is about such things. With the Harbour Drive floor being taken care of at this moment, I'd guess that once everything is set and done at that point, the other 11 floors will follow quickly.

The pics are on Page 171 of the St John's thread. The huge piles they were driving for most of 2010 were for foundation support. That lot is all fill of various ages. I think it took longer than expected to reach solid footing for a building the size of what is going there.

Just drove by 351 this afternoon. Very busy today. I saw at least ten people as I drove by.

I believe the 300 tonne crane is arriving onsite next week, and the pre cast blocks are going to start arriving in the first week of April. It should start gaining steam quickly now.

There's something concrete built up in the centre of the site.

Probably the concrete supports that'll be in the building for the parking garage? I hope to get downtown sometime soon (after classes are done) to take pictures of this, Fortis, Star of the Sea and other things.

It may be the service core which will contain the elevator shafts, most likely the stairwells and other vertical servicing shafts.
The plans suggest that the same elevators will be used for both parking and office floors.

The site is looking much more organized now. Scrap/junk has been hauled away, the 1st floor garage walls are just about complete on the east and west sides, and much of the ground has been compacted inside. Glad to see that things will soon starting looking "up".

Signs are posted downtown, closing Harbour Drive March 26 thru March 28.

Assuming this means the arrival of precast panels..?!? :cool:

That's just for crane setup. The precast will be arriving over a 6-8 week period.

Exciting times folks! I can't wait to see the progress over the coming months... :D

The crane will be the tallest structure around, for awhile, if it's a real crane.
