New Apartment Tower Cleared to Replace River North HoJo's

Quote:

The 35 story apartment tower intended to be built at the current site of the '50s-throwback Howard Johnson Inn doesn't yet have a name, but it has been cleared for takeoff. Generally referred to simply as "the HoJo tower" based on the motel it's set to replace, the 382-foot apartment tower is designed by bKL Architecture and features considerable retail space on the LaSalle and Superior streets it faces and a small pocket park on the Wells Street side. On Thursday of last week, the Chicago Plan Commission approved the project, so it can begin construction as scheduled early next year.

Typically Chicago developments get their own thread only if they exceed 500 ft. Everything else remains in the compilation thread.

As far as this building goes - It's just alright.

Fast forward to 2017...

New 298-unit ‘Exhibit on Superior’ rental tower opens in River North

Quote:

Drawing its name from its location in the heart of Chicago’s original boutique art and furniture gallery district, the 34-story, cream-colored rental tower known as “Exhibit on Superior” has officially opened its doors and will start welcoming residents in the coming days. Designed by Chicago’s bKL Architecture and developed by partners Magellan Development Group, MAC Management & Parse Capital, the $113 million project replaces River North’s old Howard Johnson motel and diner that bit the dust just 20 months prior.

In addition to 298 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom rental apartments, Exhibit features an amenity level dubbed Howie’s—referencing the site’s previous long-time occupant. The fifth-floor space includes a well-appointed fitness center, lounge, party room, game area, library, private work stations, and an 8,400-square-foot outdoor deck with a 75-foot lap pool, hot tub, fire pits, and grilling stations overlooking the city.
