The National Venture Capital Association, Thomson Financial and PWC MoneyTree compiled data on venture capital investments in U.S. metros in 2006.

The wiki-definition: "Venture capital is a type of private equity capital typically provided by professional, institutionally-backed outside investors to new, growth businesses. Generally made as cash in exchange for shares in the investee company, venture capital investments are usually high risk, but offer the potential for above-average returns."

Jesus, SF is as much as the next 6 combined. VERY impressive.

It doesnt hurt that The Wall Street of high tech finance, Sand Hill Road, is in Menlo Park. But really though, its a matter of cultivating wealthy locals-at least thats the sense I get here.

Explains why the job market in SF is so hot right now.
