Church Shares Renovation Plans for the St. George Utah TemplePioneer-era structure to close in November

Detailed plans for the upcoming closure and renovation of the St. George Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were released Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at a news conference in the St. George Temple Visitors’ Center. The temple is in the city of St. George in southern Utah...https://www.mormonnewsroom.org/media...tion-Plaza.jpg

The extensive remodel and upgrading of the Temple speaks to the growth of St. George. I imagine that it won't be too many years before there is an announcement of a second Temple in the frequently booming St. George Metro. I am very impressed with the LDS Church planners and how they're establishing the site line landscaping to best highlight the architectural beauty of the historic Temple. Speaking of which will be IMO a major plus with the new site line rearrangement of the Salt Lake City LDS Temple grounds.

A second temple was announced in October of '18

You're right LOL. New LDS Temple announcements have become so common I have stopped trying to keep up with them.

Anyone want to speculate on where the new temple will be built?

Hurricane area. Somewhere within a mile of SR9.

But most likely between Santa Clara and Ivins.

I was thinking that instead of ruining this historic, pioneer-era temple with a massive annex, they should just build a new temple. Now, I’m thinking they should build two new temples and leave this one alone.

When they mentioned preserving these pioneer era temples and undoing some of the modernization that was done in the past, and they moved most of the SLC temple annex underground, I thought they'd do the same with St. George. Unfortunately, not the case.

In Washington, across from Lin's Marketplace. When they announced the temple they stated Washington County, UT, which was a bit odd. This land is owned by The Church and is in unincorporated county land.

This is not confirmed, just local speculation

Just so you know, if you aren’t from around here, the temple annex already exists, they’re just giving it a facelift. They aren’t adding anything new on the existing building. Most of the work being done is to make it more seismically sound but might as well remodel while it’s out of commission anyway!

As for the new temple, there is talk of it going out in Washington fields, or across from the new Lin’s. We’ll have to wait and see!

From my understanding the current annex design will be significantly changed to match the original architecture of the historic main Temple. What I also appreciated is that the landscaping will be significantly changed. From the main entrance view, the annex will be hidden by lush plantings. The beautiful symmetry site line of the main Temple structure will not be lost, but enhanced by landscaping and water features. At the side street, the newly designed annex will have more of a striking entrance. It won't just seem like a poor stepchild side door, but it's own segment of significance.

I am really liking this new generation of L.D.S. Temple and grounds planners. I don't know if it's as a result of the new L.D.S. President or possibly coinciding with more sophisticated tastes with American Planners in general. I think that if the historic Coalville, Lehi, and 33rd So. and State LDS Tabernacles were still with us today, they would have survived and have been rehabilitated.

Groundbreaking of new PrinterLogic headquarters represents first step toward Tech Ridge vision

The dream of creating a tech hub in St. George came one step closer to reality Friday with the groundbreaking of PrinterLogic’s new headquarters on Tech Ridge.

The St. George-based tech firm held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future building, to be built at the old airport adjacent to Dixie Technical College. PrinterLogic, a developer of cloud-based serverless printing infrastructure software, is the first private sector company to break ground on 150-acre Tech Ridge development, which has been in the planning stages for years.
