NEW YORK | Time Warner Center | 750 FT / 229 M x2 | 55 FLOORS | 2004

these towers became quite prominent in the skyline ... i love them. :)

from wikipedia:

The Time Warner Center is a mixed-use skyscraper developed by The Related Companies in New York City. Its design, by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, consists of two 750 ft (229 m) towers bridged by a multi-story atrium containing upscale retail shops. Construction began in November 2000, following the demolition of the New York Coliseum, and a topping-out ceremony was held on February 27, 2003. The property had the highest-listed market value in New York City, $1.1 billion in 2006.

Before the Time Warner Center, this is what was previously proposed for the site by Boston Properties:

Like the current development, this early proposal included two towers of 68 and 58 stories as well as a mall.

^^
Whoa, I never knew that. That must have been proposed in the 80s/early 90s. Not a bad design for that time, but I think I like the Time Warner Center more. Very interesting.

Helmut Jahn's singular tower (in the 1,250' range) proposed in the 1980's would have been so much better than what eventually got built.

I like the base, but the towers are rather forgettable.

I'll have to see if I can dig up Jahn's sketches from my library.

^David Childs is a 'god' of architecture? Hardly.

There were a few proposals for the Coliseum site. All in all though, I'd say what we got is good for the area. The towers seem very mammoth from some angles, slender from others. And they've had a starring role in at least one movie (Cloverfield).

i love these towers! i wish this was being built as the new world trade center only on a much larger scale. they would look jaw droping!
