MEXICO CITY | Torre Mayor | 738 FT / 225 M | 55 FLOORS | 2003

This 55 story building along the Reforma in Mexico City is one of the main anchors of the MC skyline. I was completed in 2003 and was designed by the Ziedler Roberts Partnership of Canada. The building is the tallest in all of Latin America, eclipsing the Parque Central Towers in Caracas by 13ft.

The building is essentially a point ended elliptical prism overlaid onto a rectangular prism. The top and bottom end of the elliptical portion of the building is sheared off, created an openness at the base of the building and a distictively shaped top.

There is an observation deck at the top of the tower.

I was in Mexico City in January 2005 and took some photos - unfortunately I didn't get to go to the obs. deck due to severely limited hours at that time.

The building also has a very distinctive lighting scheme, which I don't have a photo of.

Definitely looks like an impressive one.

I like it !
I remember that, back then, it was one of a few tall buildings under construction on the planet.
Times have changed... for the better.

Neat-looking building with a distinctive design

this is definitely a beautiful building. Some buildings can be better appreciated in real life, but this one can definitely be appreciated in pictures as well. It's amazing how photogenic downtown Mexico City is. I love that place! I remember going to the National Anthropology (?) museum and looking at this building. I was in awe! Outstanding!! 5 stars out of 5.

Lucky! I've been trying to convince my family to travel to Mexico City since I don't remember the last time I was there. But no... it's too dangerous, fuck that, I wanna see the buildings. Anyways, great picture. Hopefully I'll take some my self next year.

Just a word of note. . . there is no observation deck at the top of the tower anymore. . . they apparently have leased the space to someone and the only public areas in the building are the shops at ground level. . .

. . .

It's not really my style. It looks like a lot of different things pasted together and I've never liked that color glass. But, that being said, it looks like quality materials.

I like it. I remember watching the construction thread for it on SSP. I'm a fan of skyscraper tops with crowns, rings or rounded facades.

Aleks Oct 25, 2010 2:56 AM

i like the lighting scheme. simple and elegant.

too bad they closed the observation deck. any plans on opening it soon?
