TORONTO | 80 Bloor Street W | 874 FT | 79 FLOORS

A proposal has been submitted for an 68 storey tower (potentially 232 meters give or take - calculations of height provided by Mongo). This one is down the street from the 83 storey Holt Renfrew tower proposal.

Details:
80 BLOOR ST W
Ward 27 - Tor & E.York District

Rezoning application to develop the site into a 68 storey residential mixed use building for 68 floors (plus mechanical penthouse) and will include 39,810m2 of residential area (85 bachelor units, 300 one-bedrooms, 123 two-bedrooms, and 57 three-bedrooms) and 3,465m2 of retail space. There will be 181 parking spaces provided below grade for residential use.

Preliminary Renders from 2012 courtesy of ZachBalbino (these renders are no way "official"). Inspiration for the design of the tower were mainly based upon Jean Nouvel's MoMa Tower.

The tower would replace this existing building.

I've made a drawing for this tower. http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=100893

Excellent effort as usual, koops, and, this being Toronto, I suspect this will come in at well under 800 ft. Still, one thing I love about Toronto architecture is the dearth of spires.

Some additional renderings.

Wait, so this is a proposal, but there are no renderings yet, but you're posting renderings from a forumer of what he would like it to look like? And now there is even a diagram based on said fake design? What am I missing?

koops65 Nov 1, 2013 2:43 AM

Yeah its all fake...
Probably within a few years they'll build a fake building based on the fake renders. And then after that fake rich people will move into the fake tower...

**sarcasm alert**

OK, he said these renderings were in no way official. So is this the design or not? It's a simple question.

Me too. Fortunately the pencil in an onion atop Trump isn't visible from many vantage points.
As for 80 Bloor, I really like the wavy proposal in the rendering.

I understand your confusion. Initially ZachBalbino posted renderings (the ones I started the thread with) of the project which he received when he was working at the architects office. He did mention they were preliminary renderings, so I went a little above and beyond classifying the renders as unofficial. I guess it was just a poor use of wording on my behalf. For some reason I assumed that since he saw the renderings while working at the architects office, they were by no means officially the renderings (I assumed they were just conceptual/fantasy). They are in fact actual renderings that are attached to the planning doc. I was in the wrong :)

Now 68 storey 224 meters/735 feet:cool:

Toronto and East York Community Council consideration on April 8, 2014
This application proposes a new 68-storey (214 metres plus a 10-metre mechanical penthouse) mixed-use building at 80 Bloor Street West with 3,465 square metres of retail and commercial uses on the concourse level, ground, ground mezzanine and second floors, and 39,810 square metres of residential floor area above. The existing 18-storey commercial/office tower on the site would be demolished. A total of 181 resident vehicular parking spaces are to be provided in a 5-level underground parking garage accessible from Critchley Lane. No parking is proposed for the commercial uses or residential visitors.

^^ Great news.
This one is growing on me each time I see it. And I really liked it the first time I saw it!

Amazing news that the render at the beginning of the thread is the official render. I'm gonna love seeing this go up.

Would have preferred something more sophisticated for the city's grande shopping street.

The podium looks like a huge missed opportunity for a little mall (Think like a more condensed version of the Collonade or the little Arcade style shopping promenade that used to exist on Yonge) Fingers crossed it's not lousy 1 street retail with tall ceilings.

I liked the first tower design but in the new version the overabundance of balconies just kills it.

Gresto May 17, 2014 8:52 PM

Is this in sales yet? Probably pre-sales.

ChiTownWonder Dec 27, 2014 7:17 PM

Nice and broad, i love it!
