Metropolitan Development Enterprises is planning to build a $67 million, 22-story condo tower in the heart of the Washington Avenue loft district. The tower is the largest new-construction residential building proposed for downtown.

Chicago-based Metropolitan was expected to present plans to build the mixed-use building at 1400 Washington, on the site of Erlich's Dry Cleaners, at a Tax Increment Finance Commission meeting Feb. 22. Metropolitan has requested $12 million of TIF for the project.

Ivie Clay, St. Louis Development Corp.'s director of communications and marketing, said a public hearing on the project will be held April 11.

That is a sharp looking building. It is nice to see some new construction downtown. I guess that it was only a matter of time until new construction would begin. I know that a lot of the older buildings are in redevelopment or are spoken for. Anyways thanks for the news.

From what I understand they are coming close to running out of old buildings to renovate in downtown St. Louis so they're going to have to start building towers. It's an amazing thing to see this city revive itself so quickly.

thank god. a new construction. from the looks of it, it could be fairly attractive and isn't situated on top of an incongruous parking garage. again, thank god.

Yup, and this building is going up on Washington Ave, the ultimate empty building-filled-back-up street in STL. Anyway, it's good to see this happening. It's like one of several high rise proposals for downtown, including a possible tallest in the midwest, outside of Chicago.... we'll see. We're waiting for the announcement.

Has someone already commented about the similarity of this design to the Sheridan-Irving Park building proposed for Chicago?

SkyHouse-St. Louis' <----website has been updated. It is "flashier" and more interactive. More renderings.

FANCY! That's quite the website. They're really giving this the marketing push it needs. I've seen their billboards around town too.

I'm not terribly crazy about the floorplans. They may have tried to cram a bit too many units in per floor. Overall, this is a great buidling. It has nice vertical lines that accentuate the squared off arch over the pool. The massing is decent (although 10 more floors would be most welcome) and if the glass in the real product lives up to the renders it'll be a great addition to downtown. I really hope this sets a trend in motion, and more of these projects come to life.

I love websites like that, they make me want to live in those buildings. I can't tell you how many condos were going to be my future home after I saw their website.:haha:

I like the design but i`m not sure about that open box thing in the back.

^^^I thought this project was shelved and the developers were looking to sell the property. Am i right?
