Pittsburgh, 4 Years Worth
This will be my thread on photos of the city of Pittsburgh, PA USA. I will be here until 2013 for college (U of Pittsburgh), so this will be my photo thread.
So I begin with this, welcome to Pittsburgh. http://i31.tinypic.com/14tdas.jpg For today, I will start with some photos of the University of Pittsburgh campus. The Cathedral of Learning, sticking out behind the Towers http://i29.tinypic.com/2cmoiee.jpg The Towers, triplet dorm buildings. After staying in one during my orientation, I am glad that I do not live in them, despite them being my top choice for living. They have thin walls (so it seems to me). During my night in them, there was construction going on nonstop all night, and it was very loud. http://i26.tinypic.com/2hzpv1f.jpg The Peterson Events Center: http://i32.tinypic.com/2qajr6u.jpg Buildings on Fifth Ave on campus: http://i29.tinypic.com/9znd6s.jpg Part of the university's medical center, UPMC: http://i30.tinypic.com/m8gtao.jpg Memorial Hall, a space for performances: http://i28.tinypic.com/2a75pow.jpg |
Wow, Sorry. Please move this to the N-Z photo section!

Good call on the University of Pittsburgh!~ I think it's a great value. Good school for affordable cost and it's urban location means you will never be bored in your 4 yrs. Good luck.
|
I concur with PA Pride. Hail to Pitt!
Look forward to seeing more of your stuff, thanks. |
Thank you all, I have some more I will upload tomorrow.

Here are some night photos, I will retry them next year once I get a camera that can take night photos better (hopefully a nice compact Panasonic with Son'ys new low light sensor):

Downtown is a ghost town after the work day ends, and on the weekends is empty and is an urban paradise devoid of people: http://i27.tinypic.com/20jh4l3.jpg The Skyline from the Smithfield Street Bridge http://i31.tinypic.com/2s7um14.jpg Station Square http://i29.tinypic.com/2poxxc2.jpg A creepy walkway next to some street http://i30.tinypic.com/2m5ea1k.jpg Some deer I encountered at a light rail station http://i28.tinypic.com/so1evn.jpg |
Great University!! One of the most urban in the country too. Go PITT football and basketball too.

It's interesting how people have the perception of Downtown Pittsburgh as being a "ghost town" after hours... Sunday night of Labor Day Weekend is certainly the deadest time one could be there... the southern half of Downtown (featured in your photos) empties out as it's rather devoid of after-hours-oriented businesses... but the Cultural District has become increasingly lively in the evenings... it's a work in progress and has certainly improved in recent years...

Some nights are really breathtaking with huge traffic jams of taxis and pedestrian traffic, not stampeding the hockey game but descending upon the cultural ditrict with plays, performaces & live music, as well as all the occompanying high end eateries. |

I don't want to fight, that already happened with my other thread where I said the same thing about downtown St. Louis.

Great shots!
I actually went to Pitt for a year before leaving for (what I considered to be) greener pastures. You're lucky to be living somewhere besides the towers. They're nice from the outside, but pretty awful on the inside. Hope your time at Pitt goes better than mine did! |
Not too long ago I went downtown and walked along one of the rivers. It was a not great out kind of rainy and gray.
