I'm just wondering if the feds do decide to use money from the P3 to help fund an arena in Quebec or a stadium in Regina for example and they want to be fair to all cities, how much does a city like Vancouver get seeing that their hockey arena is fine and the dome renos are complete or Winnipeg as another example where MTS is not old and the new stadium is already being constructed. Cities will be in line with their hands out and it will be interesting to see how it gets divied up if at all.

Bloc wants $175M for Quebec City arena (CBC news, January 25, 2011)
This might make the federal government's tightrope walk more interesting. It looks a lot like the Bloc is testing to see how much they can get. |

All I have to say is that if QC and Regina get multi-million dollar handouts for arenas/stadiums, then Winnipeg had better get the EXACT SAME DEAL for it's new stadium, and the same thing for other cities who are building or plan to build sports venues. If not, there will be hell to pay for the conservatives at the next election, I guarantee it.

Doesn't Manitoba already get an equalization deal (exclusion of hydro revenues from the formula) that Saskatchewan was promised, then denied?

The government isn't just going to go around giving it out because it's there. You have to apply to get it...just like anything in life. You don't apply, you don't get it. |

Curious statement by Wall. Didn't they state before that this thing would go ahead regardless of federal funding? Also, isn't the private money already in place? |

Now its clear that the official opposition is in favour of the funding as well, putting even more pressure on the govt to deliver. Great news for us and bad news for the stadium naysayers as they are running out of people to vote for. :)

The feds should really change the name of this program to something other than the P3 Canada Fund if they will be supporting stadium and arena projects in this way. Funding a project that has private contributions doesn't automatically make the project a P3...
