That cathedral is awesome.

Enjoyed! Thanks for sharing this nice tour.
I like Altoona, it looks nice and pleasant. I donĀ“t like very much those buildings with balcony, but the rest of the town is nice. Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain. |
Tac-o the Town is a great name for a taco restaurant.
Guessing the final photo is Tyrone. |

Thanks for the replies guys. Though a bit rough around the edges, Altoona is trying to make the best with what it has. :) |
I guess Altoona has seen better times, to put it mildly. Love the dog-on-the-porch-roof pic!

Every Christmas Eve growing up before the age of 12 my Grandma would come to town and take my Dad and my brothers out to the Cathedral. My mom couldn't come because she was Methodist, we were hopefully Catholics in training. We stood, we sat, they sung, the Priest waived around smokey balls that seemed pretty badass. All I really cared about was Santa bringing my presents that night. But the interior ceiling of that thing was incredible in my memories of a kid. The first awe inspiring example of a Architecture that I remember.

my man, pots and pans. i hope they didn't chase you out of tyrone with a pitchfork again.
nice little spread on toona town, chappy. thanks for calling my attention to the chalk box. i MUST investigate that absurdity next time i'm in town. and i love how "welcome to altoona" is next to u-haul. "welcome to town, we'll help you move away." |
Nice pics man! Altoona's pretty sweet. My parents go there once a year for a British car meet. They drive around mountain roads and hang out at the Delgrosso factory and I believe there's like a small amusement park. Altoona is also home to Sheetz one if the best growing Pennsylvania companies.

Yes.
Just moved to Las Vegas from Pittsburgh but originally from Hollidaysburg (Altoona area).. I see you've been taking pics of smaller towns, hburg is definitely a place especially on chimney rocks and nice neighborhoods.. haha just an idea!! Good Luck and great pics!!

Nice tour. Downtown looks a tad disjointed, but has some nice individual pieces.

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't realize there were so many Altoona connections here.
@ gio - I survived. I hadn't noticed the irony of the "welcome" pic until I posted it. :D |
Awesome, Altoona is so interesting to me. My wife is from State College so we always go by it. They have a baseball stadium also, right? And supposedly an amazing beer bar.
I need to go there by train one day also  |
