Damn this is going fast. Did they end up keeping the copper-colored cladding?

Not sure about that glass color, but at least it will stand out among all the other blue glass towers in Moscow's IBC.

colemonkee Sep 1, 2010 6:26 AM

Ugh. 1985 called. It wants its glass back.

Seriously, why is it that red and gold glass are always completely reflective? Is it because the color of the glazing might tint the view from the inside if there's any level of transparency? Any glass experts out there care to explain this one?

LeftCoaster Sep 1, 2010 6:43 AM

Should have seen this coming given the rendering, but damn that glass is awful!

Gamma-Hamster Sep 1, 2010 12:39 PM

You people have no sense of style, this glass is amazing.

I would have died from boredoom if it was another transparent blue/green glass.

It has the same color scheme as Russian Academy of Science

Also:

And also the color scheme of traditional russian architecture:

It's a great mix of traditional and futuristic that evokes very positive associations.

No, the glass is not the same as the examples you mentioned. It is near on the colour wheel, but not the same.

Mercury City has bright Copper Mirror finish. Your first example is
Bronze with a matt finish and the traditional Russian examples are different shades of Gold. To many people with a very refined sense of colour/hue/tone or shade they are very different and evoke a different level of quality. Even if they are made of the finest of materials, a copper or bronze coloured covering will always look cheaper and gaudier compared to gold.

The best example of gold glass cladding is the Royal Bank Plaza in Toronto Canada. That is because there is almost 2500 ounces of pure gold used in the glazing, to give it it's colour.

Similar color to The Mirage or Mandalay Bay in Vegas.

Innsertnamehere Sep 1, 2010 6:16 PM

its not just the color... the glass looks very warped also...

Copper and bronze gaudier and cheaper than gold? Well, maybe where you live it is considred to be so, but here gold is associated with excessive wealth and it is gold which is considered to be cheap and gaudy.

Using real gold in cladding will be considered a cheap way to show off.

The story of that guy who clad his Porshe in real gold come to mind.
For some reason instead of thinking that he is a rich man with excellent style everybody thought that he is a looser with microscopic penis.
