Well, words such as "tower" and "freedom" can be quite common in articles.

When the Freedom Tower rises above street level you can bet it will be a big news story around the world.

Right now though, it is off the radar screen virtually everywhere except New York. I don't mean any offense by this - it is simply the truth. Most people do not understand the complexity of the underground work and don't see all this underground activity as "progress", they see it as an embarrassment.

With the rain tiring to put a damper on my day, I hit the streets of the city.
Since I was last at the site four years ago, a lot has changed. I was
disappointed with the base of WTC7... what an unfriendly tower to walk up
to on the street. Anyway, great to see work being done at the site even on Saturdays.

Not much visibility of the columns left. They'll slowly being encased in the concrete.

All but a few feet will be left to secure the other columns when thay come.

Like the view of Goldman from that angle. I can't remember a time when the city was building so many
large office towers. Even more impressive when you consider the number of office towers already built.

new york vs. chicago stupidity is not allowed on this forum (nor is any city vs. city crap), so if you want to engage in such discussions, you're simply going to have to hold them on a different website. this thread is for news, pictures, updates, and opinions about the construction of NYC's freedom tower.

Um, actually, there is. Not from ground level, but if you look at webcam, they are pretty much the same as a week ago. But the core is coming along quite nicely.

Yeah, compared to how the site has looked like a few months before, it's unbelievable how fast everything is moving forward. Like the whole area around. It's truly amazing. A few years before I have considered the area to become an abandoned but expensive place.

R@ptor Oct 31, 2007 9:18 PM

Finally the core is rising. It was about time.

You must realize that Ground Zero just can't be rushed with its rebuild effort. Even though it seemed like forever for the main part to get underway, the timetable is stretched out to several years.

That's right. And constructin of the Freedom Tower only commenced relatively recently. The didn't start on 9/12/2001.

Woudn't have been able to anyway.

I don't understand some of the members here. Now that construction of the Freedom Tower is underway, you STILL hear some say that it's not coming along fast enough.

What should the officials do, break out with the whip, start cracking it to make things go faster?:whip:

They should at least be glad that 7 WTC is back on the scene and has partly broken the curse
of the terror attacks.

Does anyone have any close ups of the base of these cranes - or diagrams of how they work ? They appear to be the same type that was just installed next door to me ( in Chicago ) and I am pretty sure they are the type that "crawl" up the building's core as it rises.

I wish that some one could help those of us that are visually challenged out by oulining in red one of these arial photos of the site. I cannot for the LIFE of me, figure out where the foot print of this building is. Can some one do that? All I see is a mess in the pit.

i agree.
