It's also good that the area where the giant towers once stood is getting recognition to be back in films even before the new towers are built!

Won't be long before the steel frame for the GS Tower will also take center stage and get into some hot new movie as well!

There will be one.

Quite similar to the powerful white beam of light that shines for the tip of the pyramid-shaped Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, only the one for the Freedom Tower will be in blue to become the permanent Tribute in Light theme.

NYguy Dec 5, 2007 11:42 PM

It's so much going on around New York these days that I don't think the Freedom Tower gets the attention it deserves. With construction of 2 more WTC towers just a few weeks away, there will be more buzz Downtown. But most importantly, when the Freedom Tower starts rising above street level in a couple of months, the public will finally take notice that the WTC rises again!

CoolCzech Dec 5, 2007 11:59 PM

God, it'll be such a relief when the WTC towers once more over Lower Manhattan: I wince each time the the place appears in the movies without it, looking so downright stumpy...

They STILL have yet to move the survivor's stairway from the spot where Tower 2 will be built.

The south part of the Freedom Tower's core is noticably higher now!

Note the reflections of that ugly brown windowless building and the severly damaged dilapidated Fiterman Hall on 7 WTC.

Thanks for the photos - looks real busy for "nothing going on" - have they started the self raising form for the core yet ?

There really is a lot going on, but in the next couple of months we'll begin to
see more activity on and around the site.

What are those blue things down there in the foreground?

I never realised how long that ramp is. Longer than the Twins were wide!!

This picture is several months old. The blue tanks (white tanks covered with blue tarps) are at the bottom floor of the PATH east/west corridor. Nobody was ever able to explain what the tanks were going to be filled with (water? diesel fuel??). I would hope no explosive material would be placed below a pedestrian corridor! The HD Earthcam was not working when the tanks were delivered.

Daquan13 Dec 6, 2007 11:57 PM

Hmm, isn't that where the pedestrian tunnel is also being built so that the WFC employees can get to and from the PATH Station and vise versa?

I think in time, it will eventually replace that ugly eyesore north foot bridge that spans across West Street.

Yes, now that you've mentioned it, it has just dawned on me that that section IS far more advanced now and that pic IS several months old now!

I DO remember seeing the tunnel underneath. I believe that is also the support foundation for Fulton Street which will also eventually run back through Ground Zero in front of the Freedom Tower when completed. Thanx.

It's the same thing. It will eventually provide an underground connection from the WFC wintergarden all the way to the Fulton St transit terminal on Broadway, essentially making the whole thing one big transit center.

Daquan13 Dec 7, 2007 2:59 AM

Good!! That' a thoughtful idea.

I hope though, that there will be some surveilence cams to monitor any suspicious activity in there.

That's something you don't have to worry about. There will be surveilence cams on every inch of Downtown (including the transit centers), some already in place.

Daquan13 Dec 7, 2007 2:04 PM

You're so right!! Especially in today's horrible world.

CoolCzech Dec 7, 2007 2:18 PM

All the cam activity in the world didn't stop the subway bombing in London...

One hopes there'll be lots and lots of plain clothes cops around at all times, too.

Sadly, there's nothing anyone can do about it. When I'm in a subway station, I see people with backpacks, heavy coats (sometimes when it's not even cold outside), roller bags, etc. Short of putting in metal detectors (which would never happen), you have to rely on your sense of instinct (knowing when something isn't right, you get the hell out of there). You just always have to keep your guard up, know your surroundings and not live your life in fear.

I'm confident that security in the Trade Center will be top notch. I have to say, being someone who walks the streets and utilizes the subways of this city, I always feel safe.

Daquan13 Dec 7, 2007 5:44 PM

The Freedom Tower itself will have a much better high-tech security system as will the new garage, so I'm pretty certain that EVERTHING for Ground Zero will (7 WTC already has one in place).

Also, there just might be metal detectors in ALL of the towers - I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. They better have their act together, or face the grave danger of another terror attack, and Lord knows that no one wants THAT to happen again!!!

Sure didn't. But that doesn't really apply here. The fact is, a terrorist attack can occur at any time, anywhere. Ironically, the people on the higher WTC floors are probably the safest from attack.
