India Tower isn't one of the projects that has been scrapped.

Here's a little bit of info on this season's monsoon.

Quote:

According to the India Meteorological Department, by September 1, the monsoon usually begins to retreat from northwest India and southeastern Pakistan. That hasn't happened this year, and the monsoon rains are forecast to continue at least for the remainder of this week--well into the 3rd week of September. This very unusual monsoon season also started a week earlier than normal.

Here's what might be the real reason for the delay:

BMC stops work on DB’s 125-floor Charni Road hotel

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has put the brakes on DB Hospitality’s upcoming 125-storey luxury hotel at Charni Road in south Mumbai.
Touted as the tallest hotel building in India, work on the iconic India Tower (Park Hyatt Hotel) project was halted after the civic building proposals department issued a stop-work notice on May 25 last and demanded a premium of around Rs 200 crore from the developer. The project cost is Rs 2,800 crore.

During Praful Patel’s tenure as aviation minister, the Airports Authority of India sanctioned a height of 424m for the hotel. So far, only the basement work has been completed.

Trouble started about six months ago when the civic body demanded that the company pay premium and development charges running into a few hundred crores for the various building concessions it had sought.

The BMC has issued a stopwork notice to DB Hospitality’s hotel project at Charni Road for failing to pay Rs 200 crore in arrears. Civic sources said the demand of Rs 460 crore was reduced to Rs 212 crore when portions of the building were included in the floor space index (FSI), the ratio of total built up area vis-a-vis plot size.

Since India Tower will exceed the allowable FAR/FSI for the site, DB has to pay a fee for that. The disagreement over the size of this fee is what caused the work stoppage.

this is really nice building. But judging from how much work theyve done, id say they got a lot more to do.

This is a fantastic proposal! One of the best designs I have ever seen!

Looking forward to seeing it rise.

This one has been put on hold indefinately and should be moved. As far as I know the developers have to deal with some legal issues (some got arrested etc.).

this tower seemed too good to be true

If this is actually being built that's great, although I don't follow this thread. Good to see one of the world's first civilizations climbing back. Although I think the seasonal monsoons will affect this building becuase KEYWORD: Seasonal.

The monsoon ended a while ago... and work didn't restart.

DBRealty has some issues to work out if they want to continue working on the tower.

-Resolving the massive airrights payment
-Waqf board issue
-Criminal charges against some of the executives of DB

It's India ^_^;; It's kind of notorious for it's slums and horrendous infastructure in big cities.

I'd like to see this get built. Hopefully it's not on hold permanently.

Ed007Toronto May 7, 2012 5:26 PM

Why is it on hold?

scalziand Dec 29, 2012 5:56 AM

Slight design change?

No no no, look closely at the India tower render; the bottom of each tier is now flat, they used to be pointy.
