Not to bash because I think it looks fantastic, but am I wrong in saying the windows are much smaller than the glass exterior covering them? Are there any other examples of buildings that have small openings covered in much larger glass panels?
|
I don't know but I doubt it. I think the glass is not just windows but its the buildings exterior shell. If that is the case then buildings like that might exist elsewhere but I don't know them.
Anyway check it out. You can rent out space from the Ryugyong on the office, business and residential areas. Though I do doubt the building safety and why would I buy it. http://ryugyong.org/?b00004&siteclaim http://ryugyong.org/?b00003&siteclaim Oh yeah and I did forget to mention that people do buy space from this building. http://ryugyong.org/?b&view |
Now THAT'S a transformation. That glass looks great! Possibly the best looking glass of ANY builing I've seen in recent years. Beats Trump in Chicago, what I've seen from the Shard in London, SWFC, etc.
Yeah, too bad the inside will never look as good as the outside, IMO. |
The pictures on the previous page are not actual photos of the building. The top is totally different than from this actual photo:

You can see 2 sides of the building being clad in this image. |
Isnt the Koryo hotel the place they put you in when you book a tour?

I don't hate the building, I just think they are just building a facade over a dubiously constructed concrete structure. I doubt any great portion of it would be actually used inside. Lipstick on a pig is still a pig. They will likely finish the Foyer and then build like one revolving restaurant on one of those top floors, and give people a tour to show it off. Many people think the subway system is the same, with only 2 working trains, and only the portions that are shown off to tours are actually in working order. Pyongyang is the ultimate Potemkin Village.
|
They say once they finished the cladding, they will refurbish the interiors. There are misaligned elevator shafts. None of it really makes sense though.
Pyongyang really isn't the ideal place for a hotel like this, so i'm trying to figure out if when it opens, will its outside relations grow? |
The building needs frickin' "lasers" on the roof, at the top and along the stoops on the three wings.
|
This comment is not meant to be controversial or degrading: Someone earlier said the building looks just like a Star Destroyer. I totally agree and I don't think that's a bad thing. It only makes me like it more.

If North Korea becomes more like China I might visit North Korea 20 to 30 years from now.
