It's not for propaganda. Look up Orascom Telecommunications, and Koryolink.

I suppose that depends on how you do that math. . . welcome to the forum. . .

This building looks like it belongs in a fantasy movie or cartoon - it has to be the most unique building in the world - i am glad it has been recladded

While that's true (like the "propaganda village" near the DMZ) I think this has a legitimate use if nothing else as a telecommunications tower, plus it simply looks better now. Of course, empty villages near the DMZ are handy for blasting propaganda messages over the line.

It was hideous as a concrete shell but now that it at least has the look of a finished building it is quite fascinating.

Would be interesting if any SSP photographer types ever got access to Pyongyang or, better yet, some of the other cities (e.g. Hamhung, Chongjin) of which outsiders see even less than the capital. The bits I've seen show some examples of interesting architecture beyond Stalinist apartment blocks - and not even all of those are terrible. I'd enjoy the opportunity to tour the place, even knowing I'm going to have some Party lackey following me around telling me what I can and can't take pictures of.

Not really, considering it was capitalism that got this done.

Not that the North Koreans will know that.

Any word if they've built some sort of 'lobby' or interior on the ground floor of the building, to make it look like it is actually used as a hotel? You know, to more or less make it look like the whole thing was actually finished...

Roadcruiser1 Sep 29, 2011 3:24 AM

If you look at the pictures they are working on the lobby. It seems like the building will be used for telecommunications for now.
