This recent picture confirms that the exterior work is completed. Sadly this and the picture I posted above are the only ones available. This is disappointing compared to last February when a lot of pictures were put up. There should be more since there were two North Korean tours in February. That was what I found out online.

These pictures act as another confirmation that this hotel's exterior is complete.

Last few shots have to be the best photos I've seen of Pyongyang.

Surreal building. Looks like it's supposed to be set in a dark future...

Dylan Leblanc Mar 29, 2012 4:18 PM

and for some, that dark future is a present reality

True, and the cladding currently looks awesome. BUT the old cladding would've fit in better in the city, but i get why they changed untouched cladding from 20 years ago.

Interesting you say that though. Newspapers today reported that North Korea spent millions of USD to have that hotel finished. A lot of people died while they were finishing the hotel, but hey at least the hotel is done.

THE BIG APPLE Mar 30, 2012 2:00 AM

^ What a disgusting mind. People DIED, but atleast the hotel is done. I understand the love for architecture believe ME, I love buildings MORE than you. But humanity FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD, architecture after a WHILE.

Sarcasm detector a little rusty?

Austinlee Mar 30, 2012 3:15 AM

North Korea looks soooo out of date compared to BOOMING amazing Seoul and Busan. I can't wait to see North Korea go democratic and start playing catch up with modern highrises and infill.
It's not a matter of if but when. We will look back and laugh at this funny little town in the near future.

Um yeah you don't seem to realize I just used sarcasm.

The other high-rises in the photos sure look delapitated IMO

Reminds me of an old comic book, X-Factor, where the original X-Men were based out of a huge alien spaceship that dominated the Manhattan skyline. That's exactly what this looks like.

I love x-factor! I grew up in the 90s but was really fond of 70-80s x-men spinoffs. I have x-factor issue 24; it's in pristine condition collecting dust in a box somewhere. One of archangel's first appearances if I'm not mistaken ;)

Totojuice Apr 9, 2012 5:50 PM

wow.

DEAR GOD. This building is magnificient. What an incredible sight. Hopefully things will improve politically, and 10 years from now we'll see some new complimentary structures emerge around this landmark.....remember how poor and pathetic Shanghai looked in the late 1990's....
