Darn, I saw an update and thought someone had posted photos. Haha, no someone else will come here seeing my update thinking the same thing.

The passenger house actually arrived at the shipyards last Wednesday morning (Feb. 11, as the photo date indicates). The picture shows the house after being offloaded from the barge. From here, the passenger house will be moved into an indoor shop, the wheelhouse/HVAC modules will be mounted above the passenger house, and they’ll start outfitting the interior of the vessel.

Just thought you’d like the update!

sooo i read this whole thread and West Van seems to be getting quite a lot of flack from everyone...
does anyone actually live there, or know a substantial amount of people in the right demographic for transit use downtown?

there is some density around Park Royal. that new development "Evelyn Drive" surrounds park royal north, and it's a bunch of condominiums.
--> not to say that this kinda thing merits a skytrain across the lions gate bridge. the way i see it, a tram line like the one downtown will have can go in on londsdale and extend along marine drive to Park Royal. that's pretty much as far into WV as anyone will allow it to go.
i'm not sure that a skytrain will ever go into North van. it's like when they wanted to bore a tunnel under eagle ridge bluffs instead of cutting across them - the tunnel was gonna be $1billion, half the cost of the Sea-to-Sky upgrade into itself or something. totally unreasonable
it's too expensive for the short distance the skytrain would travel to londsdale. they will probably just have to add a 4th seabus later or something

btw, "Pacific Breeze" sounds like it should be a tourist boat that ferries people around in a water-themed amusement park. tacky as hell


anyway, just thought i'd point that out...

I live in WV and I can tell you with the upmost certainty that despite high levels of density all along Marine Dr to Dundurave there will never be a skytrain to WV. You guys complain about NIMBYs in Vancouver or Kits but you haven't seen anything yet... just try to change anything in WV, its like a mouse trying to move a boulder... far too many spoiled housewives and retirees with nothing better to do.

^yep, that sounds like West Van alright. i'd take it a step further and say that the WASPs think that anyone who doesn't drive at least a Mercedes lives in the ghetto.

I also live West Van, and the Nimbys are out of control here. Hell, our MAYOR is a Nimby. Don't really hold out much hope for the West Van densifying. I'd love to see more around Ambleside, and, I'm sure the businesses around there would too. Oh well. Maybe in 10 years when a bunch of the seniors are gone.

Oh, and nothing has happened at Evelyn in months. I pass it twice a day on my way downtown.

The senior citizen population is going to rapidly increase for the next few decades... get out while you still can.

Here’s a little update about the third SeaBus, which is currently being built over at the Victoria Shipyards. Along with two photos, I got this email from fleet management this morning:

I thought you might be interested to know that the hulls and the superstructure of the 3rd SeaBus have now been connected! Or at least, they’ve been assembled, and will now be welded together. The mast hasn’t been mounted to the vessel yet, but they’re expecting to do that later this week.

One more photo of the SeaBus under construction is below. FYI, the third SeaBus is slated to go in service at the end of 2009. Here’s an earlier post showing the passenger house arriving at the shipyards in February.

Mast? Like.... for a sail? :sly:

Gotta say I like the old design better aesthetics-wise. Ironically it looks more modern.

^^ I agree, the crew deck doesn't cantilever over the main ship like the old ones:

The 'pacific breeze' (yeef) looks like a tank compared to the other two.
