This is the only tower from China I'd like to see being build here in New York. It would fit in perfectly.

The Eurozone is on the brink of collapse, and so is the US. Do you really think China is immune?

All good things must come to an end, my friend. And this is not any anti-China BS coming from me.

I would be amazed if even half of the current proposed/site prep supertalls in NYC are built anytime soon. Which is unfortunate, because I like Ping-An and I like the Hudson Yards towers in NYC.

That is my one and only comment on that topic.

Chicago will probably end up building some 2000 footer during the next boom - whenever that is. NYC and Chicago just love to go back and forth with the height title, so it's the next logical step for Chicago.

I wish more buildings in the US were built with a crown and spire like this. Once upon a time, we cranked out gems like the Empire State and the Chrysler. Not that I don't love the buildings that get built today, but those were like altars to commerce, capitalism and prosperity. I don't feel the same reach to the skyscraper heavens in the buildings of the 21st Century.

Kudos Shenzhen.

So the scaffolding appears to be a set of ramps.

This method of construction is very interesting. They keep doing things that I didn't expect.

SkylineFan Nov 29, 2011 10:57 PM

Interesting fact: Every 1,000 ft high, the temperature drops a mere 3.57 degrees fahrenheit. So this tower is almost 2,000 ft high. Let's say it's 72F down on the ground around the base. Up at the top floors, it's almost 65F up there!

This building is 2165 feet not 1929, check out Skyscrapercity

Usually the chinese build crazy fast especially for supertalls. Has there been a delay on this building? What has been taking it so long to go vertical and to complete the foundation?

cityenthusiast Jun 24, 2012 1:07 PM

Anyone having any new updates for this i love the rendering I hope it turns out the same way

Lecom Jul 2, 2012 5:00 AM

Why do many Chinese supertalls have a circular foundation, regardless of the actual building shape?

scalziand Jul 2, 2012 7:07 PM

The circle is acting like two arches put together so the excavation walls remain supported while keeping the area where the tower is going in clear.

they have a billion people and a booming economy.

Onn Jul 11, 2012 5:42 PM

Because the government is paying for them with the intention of not making money. Much like the Burj Dubai, most of these supertalls will end up being money holes.
