Taller would be better but still it's a very handsome building IMO. Is there really any market for this at that location? Is Waterfront square at 100% occupancy with renters?

Gotta love the New York style stealth guerrilla urban development in Chinatown:

What's going on with the gutted factory loft building? Hopefully a re-use project. That is a great building.

New York developers are rehabbing it after a billion years of vacancy.

For some reason, the developers have opted not to use the extremely competitively priced, highly flexible and well-mannered membership of the Philly trade unions (mostly residents of S. Jersey and other suburban locales).

Needless to say, the tradesmen are unhappy about this and are pulling all the stops to torpedo the project:

Apparently the developers believe so. They have 3 projects planned along the waterfront

Center City lures even more techies

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that mobile-device-management company Fiberlink is putting an office at Three Parkway in the city and "plans to add up to 140 engineers, salespeople, researchers, and technicians there."

Like Bentley Systems, another company that is adding an office at the city site, Fiberlink " hasn't asked for financial incentives," the Inquirer said.

Post brothers are a local company, not new Yorkers

They deserve all the praise in the world for this project. Basically risking their lives to weaken the union stranglehold on this city

This is fantastic news. Hopefully this is just the beginning of jobs moving back into the city.

Here-here! This city suffers from so much deadweight loss and investment deflection due our militant unions. Also, they make it awful for our new immigrants and existing minorities to start a life and enter into the workforce. I'll be having one tonight for the Post Brothers

One potentially significant advantage for the category of employees at that company/location and others that may follow, is the directly adjacent Private (K-12) Friends Select School. Maybe every new office building in Center/University City should have a Private and subsidized K-12 school attached !

What is being built in University City near the Elylwn/Media line tracks?

hammersklavier Jul 15, 2012 1:46 PM

In the vicinity of...?

CHoP's developing (another) building along Convention Ave., and there's plenty of rehab activity going on around 49th St. Station. Further to the west, you're not really in University City anymore--you're in Angora.

Chop - 5 story underground parking garage and 9 story ambulatory building on top.

Skate park looks like it may actually happen. Financing in place and approval given.

Ic , no wonder the pit was so huge. Any large TOD's planned along the Septa network?

hammersklavier Jul 16, 2012 1:23 AM

Yes, but exclusively in the City (because the City is spearheading them). Some older suburban Main Streets, e.g. Lansdale, are working to become more transit-oriented, particularly due to the success of Ambler, but that in my book counts more as the re-intensification of an existing urban environment more than a de novo TOD.

Nexis4Jersey Jul 16, 2012 1:24 AM

Anything along the Trolley routes?

Indeed it is , although there's room for a few more Skyscrapers and high rises...
