Depot Harbour, Ontario (near Parry Sound in Georgian Bay).

Seeing that freshwater aquaculture is quite rare in Canada I did some research into what provinces have this industry. Only a few had them and seeing how BlackRedGold is from Ottawa I started with Ontario. The only area listed for that province was the Manitoulin area. When I gave up searching the island area I zoomed back out to fly over to my area again and for some reason felt compelled to have a look in Perry Sound.

That's actually a pretty interesting place as well. Basically a ghost town, but at the beginning of the 20th Century was a thriving town and grain port.

I stayed in cottage not far from there awhile back across from Killbear Park. I had no idea that a ghost town existed there though. Would have been an interesting place to visit.

That's sleeping giant provincial park, but it's not orientated properly.

Well my methodology may of helped put in the right area but it was pure luck I zoomed into Parry Sound. :P

Anyways here's the next one. The only hint I will give for this photo is the region has historical ties to the Depression era. If nobody guesses this by the time I get home tomorrow night I will post another hint

Yup, it was the end point for the Ottawa-Parry Sound railroad and you can see where the tracks were. It's also on native land that was taken from the natives and then reclaimed by the natives after the town failed. I'm suspect that the dark spots are from a huge fire in 40's. Also the Edmund Fitzgerald stopped there numerous times.

Again it appears to be on a lake. The first thing that came to mind was some sort of staging point for smuggling alcohol into the U.S. Since the water is to the north, I thought it might be somewhere on the southern shore of Lake Huron, but I can't find anything there.

My first instinct was whiskey smuggling as well, but prohibition ended in 1933, so I'm not sure it would be an accurate association.

I checked pretty much the entire NW coast of Nova Scotia. I didn't see anything there that would fit with this location.

You guys are quite off with the smuggling association.

Instead of thinking WHAT defined the period think of WHO defined the Depression era. Also even though this site is within Canada consider all influencial figures in the Depression.

I'll give two hints tonight;

- This site is on an island.
- Most of the buildings in the photo date from the late 1890's

and since I'm feeling nice here's a third;

- This is one of only four sites like this in Canada.

It's the Roosevelt Campobello International Park on Campobello Island NB. One of the few places in Canada that is only accessible by car from the US.

That's actually really interesting. I had no idea that Roosevelt had that connection with Canada. I'm interested in knowing what it is one of four of. I'm guessing points in Canada only accessible from the US, or parks run by both the US and Canada.

Founded in 1964 by an agreement between the Canadian and American governments this international park is situated on the southern end of Campobello Island in New Brunswick. Named in honour of President Franklin Roosevelt (who lived on the island) the island's only permnament road link is with Lubec (Maine), though there is summer ferry service to Deer Island (New Brunswick).

I've heard of this island a few times over the years and what drew me to post the satellite image of it was its unique circumstance, its historical ties to both countries, and its difficulty for this thread's game. The calm water, sandy shore, absense of development, and location of the west side of the island seemed to throw some people way off of thinking this is in the North Atlantic Ocean. As for the hints;

Historical ties to the Depression era Franklin Roosevelt was president of the United States during the 1930's and '40's. He was a key figure in repairing the economy and strengthening Canada-US relations.

The buildings in the photo date to the 1890's. The building in the centre of the photo is FDR's summer house and was built in 1897. Two other cottages from that time period are restored and open to the public in the park.

The site is on an island. Campobello Island, New Brunswick.

One of only four sites like this in Canada. This is one of only four international parks in Canada. Peach Arch (BC), Waterton - Glacier (Alb), and the International Peace Garden (Manitoba).

We should do a land exchange here.

The rocks at this location are very distinctive and this area is well known for them. There is also a link to the Group of Seven (I think I just gave it away).
