Social House

Wow. Just wow. We chose this new restaurant on Water Street for the first official meeting of the Loss of Ayreonaut Support Group now that he's moved back to Calgary. Not joking - we even had an empty place setting for him.

Anyhow... three of us to start, grew to five by the end of dinner. It took so long for the girls to get ready that day turned to night.

The location is great, just up from the parking lots of Harbour Drive to Water Street.



It's so busy we couldn't get a reservation until almost 9 p.m.









So the first thing that's a bit shocking about Social House is the blend of prices. Some things are expensive by St. John's standards ($16 pints of beer), other things are ridiculously cheap ($9 charcuterie), etc.



Presentation was clearly lacking for charcuterie but the taste and cute items (rabbit pate, picked orange, etc.) were great.



Polanta fries.



Oysters. They tasted west coast because they weren't very salty, which is what we prefer.



S. had the cod.



J. had the steak with BACON JAM. It was the highlight of the evening (we all shared everything for a few bites at least).



I had the burger because they let you get them anywhere from rare to well done here. I haven`t had that as an option since Bermuda, so I wanted a nice, medium-rare burger.
