Oxford Street pedestrianisation is on hold for the moment following the local elections, although the opening of Crossrail will undoubtedly bring the plan back to the fore in the next year or so.
Even before pedestrianisation of Oxford Street was proposed, the arrival of Crossrail will mean several bus routes being curtailed, thereby reducing traffic volumes along the street. Post-pedestrianisation, the plan (the following file provides a breakdown of changes by mode:
https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roa...mode-final.pdf) is for Seymour Street – Wigmore Street – Cavendish Place – Mortimer Street becoming the main west-east route.
