ooh...thats a real shame about the building in hamilton.

as for eaton's in winnipeg....it was a shame, but without her loss we would not have the NHL in winnipeg....the building was owned by david thomson who in exchange for the property took ownership in true north sports and entertainment who built an arena in its place....of course, it was his money, influence and prestige that convinced the NHL to bring back a team....had they built the arena anywhere else thomson never would have become involved and we would not have a team....it was a fortuitous combination of circumstances.

eatons defined winnipeg for several past generations......in her death she will define it for future generations in a completely new way.
