Who cares if it does change? The bylaws are stupid anyway. wow, homeless people can't walk 300m?

1) There are actually two "emergency shelters" in the area - the DI and the salvation army. Bylaw requires 150m separation from an emergency shelter and 300m from another liquor store.

2) A liquor store is a permitted use in the under construction RioCan site, although it seems to have disappeared from the site plans on RioCan's website. Not sure if they still plan to have one or not. http://riocan.com/development-portfo...t-east-village

3) A DP was refused for a growler bar in N3 due to proximity with the Salvation Army and the the under construction store at RioCan, but that decision was overturned by the SDAB last month (with a number of restrictions that it must be a specialty store, can't sell hard alcohol, etc.) http://www.canlii.org/en/ab/absdab/d...gysdab114.html

4) The proposed liquor stores at Verve doesn't actually require any bylaw relaxations*, but is getting attention since it's close to the DI. I would find it very odd if this was refused based on proximity to the DI after a liquor store was approved at the RioCan site which is right next door to the DI.

*Unless the SDAB ruling impacts a application that is already under review? I have no idea how this goes... Depending on how it's measured it may be within the 300m limit, although it would be a fairly minor relaxation anyways.

Now comes the best part - none of this will matter if council removes the requirement for a DP on change of uses downtown as part of their small business tactical support efforts. http://agendaminutes.calgary.ca/sire...7023639506.PDF
