Heritage buildings should be fought for. I don't see Heritage as an either / or choice... nor should it be. We should have both... new and old... sometimes in the same building. The problem is, the HT doesn't want any development at all... and others want to tear everything down (not saying that's you Keith... just saying). We need both. I agree tho' that timber frame buildings on commercial streets are not as valuable as brick and mortar buildings.
