I understand it's disappointing that the spires atop this tower are no longer... but this is still the greatest city in the USA (by a long shot) and it firmly stands shoulder to shoulder with Tokyo, London and Paris... and beats them at their game in many categories.
If you've been in NYC lately, you'd see the city is literally covered with tower cranes. It already has remarkable landmark towers and will soon add another half-dozen to its ranks.
By the way, the WTC is very practical. NYC is a practical, hard-working, surprisingly sustainable city that produces output. It isn't a long-term practical joke waiting to disappoint everyone by building uselessly tall towers in the desert. This is a city that gets stuff done.... with.... or without a few spires on one random building.
Yes, I'm sorry Value Engineering exists, but it keeps NYC competitive and it keeps it REAL. NYC has a future because it's unfortunately practical.
