Sometimes a hole in the ground can be an exciting development. This is true for the location of the new Tatamagouche branch library, where the end of June witnessed the beginning of construction.
After several false indications that all was well with the project, the recent awarding of the contract to JETCO Contracting of Bedford resulted in the arrival of earth-moving machines to the lot at the front of the community field.
The library is being constructed for the Municipality of Colchester County and will the home of the new library for North Colchester.
Before the end of March, wells were sunk for the geothermal heating/cooling system for the building, and many people expected the construction activity to continue. Since then a series of meetings dealt with redesign of the building’s roof structure, a change in the material for wall construction, the approval of ratepayers in Colchester’s District 7 of an area rate to pay the balance of building costs, and other issues that finally permitted construction to begin.
