No, unfortunately not. We're just now discovering one of the most difficult challenges in rebuilding Galveston... beach erosion. Early estimates are that the island has lost at least 35 percent of the beach due to Ike. Because of this, it's going to be tougher and tougher to even get building permits for anything below the Seawall. Most of the Historic district is several hundred yards inland.
