Thunder Bay has yet to record an official homicide for 2017, but we've got a few potential candidates for one...

A missing persons case from last year is now being investigated as a possible homicide by TBPS, though the body still hasn't been found.

Thunder Bay police believe Justin 'Milky' Duncan was killed

Investigators say they still haven't found a body, will continue searching

...

"We don't have a body or any remains from Duncan," said Staff Sgt. Ryan Hughes.

"To this point from when he went missing in November, the evidence we've seized, the people we've spoken to, the investigating team believes he was murdered."

Up until now, police have only said they weren't ruling out homicide.

A couple months ago, an indigenous woman was assaulted with a trailer hitch. Doctors said the other day that she is likely going to die within weeks due to complications arising from that assault, which could cause the charges to be upgraded to a homicide. Because it involves an indigenous woman, this case has been particularly divisive on local social media, with local white supremacists claiming her alcoholism and liver problems nullify the assault and the assailant should be set free, and indigenous activists raising money to pay for her parents to visit her in hospital here in Thunder Bay. The page they've set up to raise funds (which has met its financial target) was repeatedly attacked with hateful comments from white supremacists, while hacktivists have been spreading rumours about and doxxing the accused on social media.

Video: Doctors tell Thunder Bay woman hit by trailer hitch that she has just weeks to live
A few months ago, a woman in Thunder Bay was struck with a trailer hitch thrown from a passing vehicle as she was walking down the street.

She was badly hurt and hospitalized.

Now she has been told by doctors that she is going to die.

Last week, barely a day after our newest Beer Store location opened, the unresponsive body of an indigenous woman was found behind a nearby Canadian Tire store. The body has been sent to Toronto for postmortem, police have not made a determination and results of the postmortem haven't been reported. Police held the site for 3 days.

UPDATE: Sudden Death Investigation

The Thunder Bay Police Service continues to investigate the sudden death of a 57 year old female who was found deceased just before 3:00 p.m. on March 21, 2017 in the area behind Canadian Tire located at the Thunder Centre.

The Coroner has ordered a postmortem be conducted at a date and location to be determined.

Lastly, an unresponsive male was found in his home in a gated community near the university last night. From what I can tell on social media comments, it's probably not a homicide, but police have yet to rule it out.
