You can bet he didn't pay anything close to 500 mill for the team. They did some accounting magic to make it seem that way.
The team is valued at half that price (which is probably still over-valued) in that poor hockey market - yet it sold for almost the exact same amount as a new expansion team that's starting out this year. What a coincidence!
This is just shenanigans to try and keep franchise values inflated while at the same time not trying to piss off the new Vegas owner for paying 500 mill for an expansion team when an already established franchise (which has won a Cup) could've been purchased for half the price.
The NHL isn't fooling anyone. It really is a bush-league.
