Very interesting parallel. Saint-Jean was fortified in 1666, and Catarqui in 1673. And like Kingston, Saint-Jean is home to a Royal Military College (there was a military training school on site since 1775). Royal 22e Régiment was also founded in Saint-Jean. They're also both at the head of a waterway (Rideau in Kingston, Chambly canal in Saint-Jean). However, I doubt the city will ever get a university. It's too close to Montreal... sadly.
