The MLA in a communique here stated that apart from wooing Lakshadweep authorities to restore trade ties, an appeal will be made to the island administration to construct a dedicated jetty at the harbour for the island trade at a cost of Rs 70 crore. The jetty on completion will be an exclusive facility for traders here to transport goods and commodities to that island and an appeal will be made to the island authorities concerned to expedite the jetty construction project here.

What about cruise lounge construction? I think Lakshadweep wants to attract more tourists from Karnataka. Win win situation for both Mangaluru and Lakshadweep is to have both trade and tourism.

He added that the officials in Lakshadweep are not worried about the quantum of investment if the project is beneficial to both the sides. Lobo says that government of Karnataka and union government have jointly sanctioned Rs 100 crore project for development of Mangaluru port. If Lakshadweep funding project is also materialized then it will result in great leap in the development of Mangaluru old port and development of the city.
As the island population is entirely dependent on mainland for their each and every requirement, it will boost demand for various commodities. This will indirectly increase taxation revenue of the state. The trade links will create an employment market in Mangaluru, boost tourism potential and also encourage medical tourism. Students from Lakshadweep can also avail education in the various institutions in the city.

Blueprint for Maritime Board was prepared in 2009 itself and the president of India has approved it. Budgetary allocation was also made during the same period. But no money is released so far.
So, we are going to have inland waterways throuhg maritime board or inland waterways board?
