LAS VEGAS | Project CityCenter | 600 FT / 183 M | 60 FLOORS

Project CityCenter

A $7 Billion Self Contained Urban Metropolis

While not as impressive in terms of sheer height vs other buildings being built, I thought this little $7 Billion 66-acre behemoth being built in Sin City deserved its own thread seeing that it is now under construction

While it does have at it's core a casino and hotel like other Vegas resorts of the past, developer MGM-MIRAGE has taken Vegas to a new level by building what it calls an "urban experience" and a "significant new direction for our city."

World class architects have teamed up to design various portions of the 7 tower project, including:

*A main 4,000 room 60 story resort hotel designed by Cesar Pelli with twin curving glass towers.

2 boutique hotels:

*A Hotel tower run by Mandarin Oriental.

*A "Lifestyle Hotel" tower

*A 50-story ebony condominium-hotel designed by Rafael Vinoly with 1,543

*2 Condominium Towers by Murphy/Jahn

*A 500,000 sq. ft. shopping center

Architect Daniel Libeskind is also working on parts of the project.

The entire project will be rated LEED from the US Green Building Council.

The massive development will create 7,000 construction jobs and 12,000 permanent positions.

It is expected to open in 2009.

CityCenter Main Resort Hotel

Brown Tower is Mandarin Hotel, the two towers on the right are residential towers, directly below those towers is the retail complex.

Looking the bit north of the previous picture, you see the tall "Lifestyle Hotel" tower at the corner as well as the strange jumbled design of the retail complex to the left of it.

A closer look at the CityCenter Resort's actual 3d model.

Mandarin Hotel. The heights of the towers (at least in Vegas terms) can be seen.

Looking behind the CityCenter Resort Towers, and a large circular area with roads and another tower (presumably residential or condo-hotel) is seen, likely designed by Rafael Vinoly.

Directly north of and across the street from citycenter, the $1.8 Billion Cosmopolitan Hotel is already under construction as well. It has 2,000 condominums; 1,000 hotel rooms; a 75,000 sq ft casino; 300,000 sq ft of retail, restaurant and entertainment space; and 150,000 sq ft of meeting/convention space. It opens in 2008.
